BI-LO Charities Teams Up With Shoppers to Provide Relief to Earthquake Victims in Haiti
Date: January 15, 2010
BI-LO Charities to Match Customers' Donations to the American Red Cross up to $25,000
GREENVILLE, S.C. – In order to assist the many victims of Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, BI-LO Charities will be partnering with our customers to allow shoppers to make donations to the American Red Cross. BI-LO Charities will match all customer donations up to $25,000.
On January 12, a series of earthquakes measuring 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Network, including the Haitian Red Cross, and other partners to assist those affected by this disaster.
The International Federation of the Red Cross estimates that up to 3 million people have been affected by the earthquake, and all funds raised through the scan program at BI-LO stores will be donated directly to the American Red Cross to assist with emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those in Haiti who have been impacted by this tragedy. Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers and providing financial resources and recovery.
“We feel strongly that it is important to do all that we for the Red Cross in their efforts to help the people in Haiti, who so desperately need our support,” said Executive Director of BI-LO Charities Carol Browning.
Donations will be accepted at all BI-LO stores beginning Monday, January 18, 2010 and will continue through Tuesday, February 9, 2010
