In July of 2003, Walter was especially picky. Heavy rains had made the watermelon crop unusually off-color with little taste. Rather than pass off crummy melons that summer, Walter decided thereād be no melons in his produce department. Period.
So we decided not to buy them. Or sell them. And we told our shoppers why. Other stores decided to sell the tasteless duds. We refused them because they weren't up to Walter's standards. And that meant they wouldn't be up to yours.
And the same goes for all the produce you'll find at BI-LO. Everything is triple-inspected. At the farm, the warehouse and at the store. And if it doesn't measure up, we'll send it away.
So for Walter, it's easy to provide fresh produce at affordable prices. Just don't compromise when it comes to quality. It's that simple.
