Our first logo consisted of simple block letters, each enclosed in a rectangle, with exaggerated space between them. Many of our early stores also featured a life-sized bull above the store, emphasizing the high quality of our beef.
In 1981, the famous BI-LO bull was adopted into the logo and the boxes around the letters were dropped. The logo also included slightly different colors – ginger brown, poppy red and beige – and a new typeface, which continues as the official BI-LO typeface to this day.
As BI-LO grew, so did our reputation. We became known not only for our beef, but also for our fresh produce and other quality products. To accommodate this evolution, the BI-LO bull was replaced with a dash.
In 1999, the logo was simplified even further, although this version of the logo only saw a limited use at first. The block around the letters was removed. The dash became more definitive. And instead of reversing out the letters in white, they became the same traditional poppy red.
The Super BI-LO® logo, developed in 2007, incorporates a second typeface, the handwritten script of Walter, which has become a symbol of our quality produce. It also introduced the color green and a leaf instead of a dash in recognition of our superb reputation for produce, and as a symbol of growth.
